ZERO CHEATING!

The mystery of love is greater than the mystery of death.
~Oscar Wilde~

Adoration is not profound enough a word to express the depth of my love for her. From the moment she walked into my life and set my heart and soul on fire, not a day's gone by that she hasn't plagued my every thought.

We were each other's completion. She was everything I wasn't--the sigh to my roar, the virtue to my sin, the cure to my wounds.

We Were One.

Until the unthinkable happened.

That I've survived such a tragedy without having completely lost it, is a mystery in itself. But as my mind starts to blur the lines between reality and my delusional heart, I begin to question everything, including my sanity.

And then the real mystery begins . . .

Reading it from his perspective and knowing how he couldn’t keep it in his pants in the beginning even though he and h had a connection, well that really bothered me. I think it would have been better if I hadn’t known about all those ow especially America!

I choose not to read authors who have bullies as fans.

I ended up skimming this and what Fre said was accurate. This sleazebag couldn't keep his dick out of America....and no she's not the h that he was DEFINITELY into while still screwing around. At the same time he was HIDING his screwing around with Jenna and America and a whole shit load of other girls from the h. Because he was "waiting" for her....eye roll... And he had claimed her with other guys so they'd stay away from her because she was "his"....while at the same time STILL screwing other girls several times a week!!! And being sneaky about it making sure the h didn't know about it....Explain that away!!!! Disgusting dipshit. What he did for almost an entire year was equal to cheating. He knew she was his end game & that she was his the second she came of age, but that didn't stop him fucking alot of other chicks right up until that day....wow what a guy! Pathetic.

"I’d been avoiding bagging any hometown ass for fear of it getting back to her." Nice, who wouldn't want this loser as their guy,

I will not read this book. 1st because this is not a trope I enjoy. Reading Fre’s review (link below), I found out some of my triggers. And 2nd, reading comments on HER review, there were some very nasty comments from author’s fan girls and that just makes me lose any interest in any book.

Favorite Quotes:

I had enough female company to keep me busy to put any more thought into the off-limits twin and her shotgun-toting mother.

If she wanted to listen to an asshole, she would’ve farted.

The times between seeing or hearing from her felt almost intolerable. Whipped didn’t even begin to cover how I was feeling.

My Review:

This book was seventy percent heartbreak and an angst-fest, yet I couldn’t seem to leave it alone and kept picking my Kindle back up while groaning at myself for being so weak. I missed the humor and taut suspense from the first book and angst is just not my friend, but an intriguing story definitely is and I just couldn't quit it. Elizabeth Reyes must have studied up on some of those magical dark arts, as despite all that floundering in Nico’s morose misery, I had to know how the missing pieces would come together for the conclusion. Retreading several of the same scenes from the first book in the series but now from Nico’s POV helped me recall important details that I had since forgotten and further plucked at my curiosity. Nico and Maddie’s actual time together had been relatively short before her fatal accident, but their relationship had been passionate, all-consuming, and soul deep. So much so that Nico’s despair felt like an added character. I enjoyed the ending and with a sigh of relief was glad I stayed the course but now find I am already bedeviled by the intriguing glimpse of the next installment featuring Nico’s brother. Sigh...

As anyone knows about me, I have a huge issues with books being written from another POV when I already read the story in the first book. So to say I was very skeptical about this one would be putting it mildly. But Eli definitely nailed this one perfectly.

We Were One is the hero's POV from Girl In the Mirror. And it was amazing. The first part is like a whole new aspect on things because it's Nico's past and we get to know about him and his family. That was something that truly helped set the stage for what was to come. The second part wasn't as "in-depth" as the first but it was still refreshing and entertaining. And I think the reason behind the second part being more condensed, was because a lot of what happens, appears in Girl in the Mirror. Eli did a great job of not really repeating any scenes from Girl In The Mirror and that really helped with keeping this book fresh.

If you have not read Girl In the Mirror, that is ok. You don't need to read that one to read this one. But I know whichever one you do read first, you will be itching to read the other book just to see how everything starts and finishes from each of their POV's.

Eli always does a fantastic job of creating characters that you love. You become vested in them and want to see their happiness and success in the end. Yes, this book does have an HEA and will completely steal your heart along the way.

Another smashing hit book for Elizabeth Reyes.

“Sometimes the stars align in the perfect unison, bringing together the perfect union.”

4 heartwrenching stars

Whoa, this book was unexpected. I dove in not really knowing what to expect, and believe me that’s exactly the way you need to do it! It’s a heartwrenchingly emotional read with an absolutely beautiful love story, a bad boy hero that you will completely fall for, and a surprising element of mystery. All blended together to create an engaging read that had me completely captivated.

This book is written entirely in the hero perspective, and is actually an alternate-POV book of Girl In The Mirror, however it can absolutely be read as a standalone. I haven’t read Girl in the Mirror, and I was easily sucked into this book, and I’m now curious to go back and read the other perspective. Whichever book you plan on reading first though, don’t go looking for too many details, as this story needs to be experienced without knowing too much beforehand.

This book introduces us to Nico Cortez. He and his brothers are considered bad boys in their town. They smoke and drink, they are tattooed and they ride motorcycles and, as the eldest at 19, Nico has had a string of uncomplicated hook ups. But underneath all of that, he is a sweet guy with a huge heart, and I was instantly in love with him.

Maddie is the town’s golden girl. Beautiful, blonde and sweet, she is a ray of sunshine, but though she and Nico share some intense looks, she is way too young and innocent for him to make a move. So they watch each other, and as Maddie grows older, their shared glances and secret smiles become something so much more as they come together and fall in complete, maddening, life-altering, all-consuming love.

Their relationship unfolds easily and naturally, with lots of details and it’s beautiful, sweet and tender while also being passionate and intense. Nico and Maddie are soulmates and they know they are going to be together forever.

“I live for you, baby.”

But life doesn’t always work out the way you think it will. And when tragedy strikes, nothing will ever be the same again.

OMG, this book messed with my emotions. I was in tears more than once, and my heart ached for Nico and all that he went through. His pain is visceral, and OMG, I felt all of it!

I never knew someone could endure so much pain and not die. I thought I was gonna die. I wanted to.

And as if I didn’t love Nico enough already, watching him go through all that he does and the emotional impact it has on him, just made me fall for him even further. He’s tortured and tormented, and watching him try to keep moving forward is heartwrenching. And then everything changes for him once again and he finds himself questioning everything he thought he knew.

I’m not going to say anything more because again, just jump in and experience it, but this was a really great read. It is emotional, dramatic, sweet, sexy, heartbreaking and unexpected, and I couldn’t flip pages fast enough, eager to see how it was all going to play out.

The story is split into two parts. Part 1 is the past, slower paced with lots of details, and although it occasionally felt a little overly-descriptive, it does a great job of setting the scene for the story that is to come. In contrast, part 2 had more of a ‘highlight reel’ sort of feel to it. It was clear, and still emotive, but considering all that was happening in the story, it didn’t have the fullness that the first part did. I figure this is because it’s an alternate POV book and most of the scenes from this part of the book would have already happened in Girl in the Mirror so the author is avoiding duplication, which I can appreciate, but I felt like I wanted something a bit more. Though I’m now even more keen to go back and read it to get all of those extra details.

I loved this one. Nico completely stole my heart, and his story was beautifully written, making me feel everything, and finishing off with a happy ending that had me grinning madly at 2am in the morning because I wasn’t able to put it down.

Beautiful. 4 stars.

Happy book birthday!!

If you’re an Elizabeth Reyes fan (like I am), you probably read The Girl In The Mirror, which is a kind of twisty, psychological romantic suspense read. (It’s also really awesome, but I digress...) We Were One tells the story from the hero’s (Nico) point of view. A lot of times, retellings from the male POV don’t work out (I'm looking at you, Darker) But fortunately, this isn’t one of those times. We Were One somehow manages to be a completely different story than The Girl In The Mirror, in the best possible ways.

Now, first of all, let me start by saying that you don’t have to read The Girl In The Mirror to enjoy We Were One, or vice versa. Both stories stand alone nicely. And if you DID read The Girl In The Mirror, don’t feel like We Were One will be a blow-by-blow rehashing of the original story. Hearing things from Nico’s POV makes for an entirely different reading experience. (I guess what I’m trying to say is read both, or don’t. It’s totally up to you. You’ll like whatever you read, OK?)

Nico, for all his tattoos and bad boy accoutrements, is a “nice guy” hero. Now, don’t get me wrong: he’s alpha all the way. But he always treats his girl and her family with the utmost respect, and I really enjoyed that about him. I have a low tolerance for alphaholes.

It was also nice to read about a sexy, tattooed biker falling ass-over-elbow for the girl-next-door type (I would’ve said “sweet” girl-next-door type, but Maddie had a little bit of a wild side that I also found refreshing. No wide-eyed, totally innocent and naive heroines here, folks. Yay!)

The pacing of the story was nice, too. So often stories that span years can start to drag towards the middle, but that definitely wasn’t the case with this one. Dialogue also felt nice and natural—nothing stilted or weird sounding. There were also no boring info dumps to set up characters or settings, which I totally appreciated.

All in all, We Were One is a sweet, angsty, sexy story of first love and forever love all rolled into one. Two thumbs up!

My God, this book... I don't know what it is this month but I'm having the best freaking luck when it comes to books, so many 5 star reads, so many angsty filled books.. I am in book heaven. 2018 I'm really digging you!

This book was just one of the many. It is freaking sweet, and boy my god so darn angsty it's not even the least bit funny. This book was the kind of angsty that borderlines physically painful. I swear, it really hurt for a long darn time to read this. It was seriously heartbreaking, omg! And if you're an angst junkie like me, this is absolutely the book for you!!

I could explain to y'all some of the basics of the plot but I'm not gonna because it might spoil something important for you or completely ruin your reading experience of this book, so yeah I'm not gonna talk plot at all, just keep this short and sweet, and a total roller coaster of emotions because that's exactly how this book had me. Like I was riding a roller coaster, and at each flip I'd be punched in the gut with grief, heartbreak or the biggest plot twist ever.

Pick this one up, seriously! It is so god damn sweet at first, Nico and Maddie's story is a 'forbidden' love type of thing but oh so endearing and seriously super cute. They will have you laughing, swooning and just freaking loving this book because of their sweetness. Of course then comes the heartbreak, I think it was at about half the book so be ready for it, you'll feel it coming but you won't really be ready for it! From that moment forward it is absolutely heartbreaking, so have a box of tissues next to you because you'll need them!!

After reading that you may be asking.. wait does this book not have an HEA? It does, it does.. and you won't see that coming either or maybe you will. This book ends just right.. happy. But that ending will put your emotions through the ringer too.

Note: This book is a retelling of the story in Girl In The Mirror, in Nico's POV, so if you're interested in reading that one first go ahead, but you don't need to, you just can if you want.
I didn't read it and I'm not even sure I want to, I think once was enough of going through the emotions their story put me through.

Girl In The Mirror was supposed to be a standalone book, but I'm so excited that Elizabeth Reyes decided to take it into another direction and created the Looking Glass Series. We Were One is an alternate POV novel that felt like I was reading something entirely new. I absolutely love when authors write male POV's and Elizabeth Reyes completely stole my breath away with Nico's POV. He's such a fascinating character and the love he has for his girl his heart-melting.

I won't go into details about what happens in the story because I feel that every reader needs to experience the complete Looking Glass reading journey from the very beginning. What I am going to discuss is how this book gave me all the feels. It was such an emotional book that made me feel a hurricane of emotions. This story is full of passionate, tender, heart-breaking and emotional moments. Nico's love for his girl is so powerful that when tragedy strikes, a river of tears will fall on your cheeks and you will be left with a ball of emotions that you can't control. Tissues are highly recommended!

When I read Girl In The Mirror, I was trying to put together the pieces of an intricate puzzle. With We Were One, I got to see that even if Girl In The Mirror was a fantastic novel, Nico's POV was such a powerful addition to that story. Elizabeth Reyes gave a wonderful gift to her readers when she wrote We Were One. There is no better gift for a reader than to reunite with characters that own a piece of their heart.

The Cortez Brothers are a cast of characters you do not want to miss! Elizabeth Reyes always creates the most fascinating characters that keep you coming back for more! Her writing style is amazing and if you have not read anything by her yet, you are seriously missing out! I'm extremely excited to find out what his next in this series. I'm crossing my fingers that I will soon reunite with these amazing characters! <3

I give, We Were One, by Elizabeth Reyes, 5 profound, passionate, gripping, you had me at Vroom stars!

Original review: A Novel Glimpse

Note: This review is for an ARC and is my unbiased opinion.

I have been patiently waiting for We Were One since I finished Girl in the Mirror, the first book in the Looking Glass series. That book was such a ride, and I couldn’t wait to experience it all through Nico’s eyes in We Were One.

Just like Girl in the Mirror, it took me a minute to adjust to the writing style of We Were One. The majority of this book is told to the reader by Nico. Most of the character interaction is described by him rather than acted out. I knew why that was from the first book, but it’s still a little jarring at first.

The deal with We Were One is that it surrounds the same events as Girl in the Mirror, but the narrator is Nico instead of Maggie. There are a few new revelations, but it’s mostly the same story just with Nico’s thoughts and feelings. Being that the two books were very similar, one would think it would maybe be boring or too repetitive. I didn’t find that to be the case. I loved getting Nico’s perspective. It made me love his character even more.

Bad boy Nico was just as much a sweetheart in this book as Maggie described him to be in the first one. His heartbreak over Maddie was palpable. I adored the way he loved her. His intentions were noble, and getting to know their love story from his point of view was fun.

The only thing I would have liked added to We Were One was some of what happened between the last chapter and the epilogue. It felt like a giant leap between the two time periods. I was curious what happened during this time, and how the characters rebuilt their lives. Including some of those moments would have made the story less of a repeat.

Overall, We Were One was a great addition to the Looking Glass series. I felt like I got to know Nico, a lot better. I fell in love with his crazy love story all over again. I’m really looking forward to the third book in the series, Nico’s brother Nolan’s story.

When I first picked up this book, I wasn't 100% sure what I was getting myself into. I didn't read the first book in this series, so I was pretty much going into this story blind.

One of the first things that drew me to this story was the synopsis. It intrigued me. I loved the mystery of it and could not wait to dive into the story. We Were One is told from the male point of view and follows the story of Nico. He falls in love young and fast. She was his everything until one day, fate had other plans.....Nico's story is one of love, heartache and loss. It is a story of moving on and hope. It is a story that will make you question everything and will have you on the edge of your seat. You will feel so many emotions. And just when you think you have an idea of what is going on, the floor will be ripped out from under you and your mind will be blown. I can't even wrap my mind around the twist or imagine what was going through Nico's mind. It was that good.

We Were One was a well written and intriguing read. I read it easily in just one sitting. It played with my emotions and took me for one heck of a ride. Overall, I thought this was a good read and enjoyed getting lost in the story this author created.

This story was a beautiful one, it really pulled every string of my heart. Nico and Maddie were so special. I love that they had this unspoken word with each other before they started dating. And then when they did date, the sparks flew so high! The chemistry that these two had was so admirable, so much so that every knew they were a couple far before they admitted that they were. Between the warning about "The Hellman Twins" and the warnings from Nico's family, I was surprised it didn't take him longer to stake his blame.

THEN this HORRIBLE thing happens. Without giving too much away, it just blew my mind. Nico was able to someone recover from this tragic moment in this life. Yet, just when he thought he was OK, he was knocked on his feet. The entire time he was healing I kept wondering what was Elizabeth going to do to turn this around. I NEVER in a million years thought what happen would be the end result. There were SO many tears as this man was torn apart, but then I had just as many tears as the pieces fit back together. Death does crazy things to people, but sometimes your heart just knows certain things that your brain can't understand.

After reading this I can't wait to go back and read book #1 and I really can't wait to read Nolan's book!

Nico knew about the twins for a while, his brother was interested in Maggie and Nico never took any interest as they were too young. When the twins started to grow up he noticed and new that the attraction he had for Madeline for more than physical.
Nico although realising he has found the love of his life knows that she’s too young. The continue to watch each other intently. It, isn’t until his father let him know that although Madeline is a minor, the age of consent was 16, although it was there Nico still felt that Madeline was too young at sixteen.
When Madeline finally turns eighteen, the whole time that Nico was worried about how her mother would react to their relationship, didn’t turn out as bad as he though. The two are happy and in love until tragedy strikes. There are some amazing twists and turns while Nico learns to live again and finally gets his happily ever after. Although it can be read as a stand-alone, I enjoyed reading both as it gave the different perspectives on how the ending came about.

"I received the ARC in exchange for a honest review.

I loved this book so much! Once I got started, I didn’t want to stop. You very rarely find a book, especially a romantic suspense one, in a male POV. But Elizabeth Reyes really took it home with this. Nico is one hell of a hero. I cried halfway through this and the ending was completely unexpected! I did not see that coming. At least not at first. It was plain amazingness. Now I have to read Nolan’s book when it comes! Great job on this one. "

I am normally skeptical about reading the male point of view to a story I have read previously. I am always afraid that I will end up rereading the same story with the scenes simply redone. It was a wonderful and fascinating experience to read Elizabeth Reyes' We Were One.

Nico Cortez has a tale to tell about love, loss, and survival. His joy and pain are palpable. Every word of his journey is compelling and soul-stirring. Even knowing from reading The Girl in the Mirror how the story would end, I could not put the book down.

From the beginning of Nico's relationship with Maddie Hellman to its end, every moment is filled with passion and suspense. I was in every moment with him. I experienced his excitement, humor, despair, frustration, and love as he navigated the course of his life with his soulmate and his family. I was and adrenaline-filled rollercoaster ride that had my emotions rising and plummeting as I navigated the ride.

Elizabeth Reyes successfully told a story that gave me a completely new perspective into the world of Nico and Maddie. I cannot wait to read the next installment in the Looking Glass Series.

won this AMAZING book on Elizabeth's Goodreads Read Along Giveaway, started it at 01.44am and had to force myself to put it down and get some sleep as I, unfortunately, had work in a few hours **sighs**. Literally did no work next day, was sneaking and reading this out. It grabbed me from the get go and I just had to know what will happen next.

I wanted to cry, cause I knew where it's leading 😭😭😭😭😭. We know what will happen to M&N, what's worse we know how much N loves M, and reading how they came to be one literally hurts my heart :(

Same as “Maggie” feeling incomplete, we see how Nico dealt with loss and how it literally shattered his existence. We got to more of the Cortez boys (yum yum) can’t wait for Nolan ... that little teaser is 🔥 🔥

The only person I have read that was able to pull the POV switch of the same story is Katy Evans Remy series, and Elizabeth is did a damn fine good job of it.

Love second chance romances, and this was some next level stuff! It had all the emotions in an uproar, and then some!

This story of a young love that turns tragic. Nico and Maddie, have it all until a tragedy occurs. Nico must pick up the pieces of his life and move on. That is until a chance encounter brings up the past.

This book has it all. Drama, suspense, an overbearing mother who only wants the best for her baby girls. The whole story had me hooked until the mother of all swerves happened. I can legit say I didn’t see that plot twist coming.

We Were One had me cussing at the very end. What I didn’t like about the story was the formatting errors. There weren’t any paragraph breaks, and sometimes the words were jumbled together. That briefly took me out of the story.

We Were One is a promising book. It's a nice read. Don't get me wrong, the story is good but it's not for me. This book is told by Nico's pov. I haven't read the previous book so I'll rate it based on what I read.
Nico, I kind of not like him **sorry**. I don't like how he handle the situations and I was disappointed to him. Tho the ending of the story, he redeemed himself. I love him on that part.
Overall, it's ok but as what I've said the story is not for me.

The book was okay didn't enjoy it as much as I thought/hoped I would. I didn't feel any connection (emotional or otherwise) with the plot nor the characters. Plot was predictable and was not fleshed out to delve into more serious issues.

Hands down, this may be the best suspense/mystery romance story that I have read in 2018! Holy hold onto your device when reading this. While you may start to see clues on where this may be going and you are hoping it twist this way, never did you expect it to turn to reality. You may feel delusional right along with Nico, just saying (but so worth the ride). I found out after reading this story that this is Nico’s story (book #2) and book #1 was Maddie’s story; however, you do not have to read both to enjoy this story. I have read just this one and loved this story that had so much passion, heartbreak and details that I am not certain that I would go back and read the first book since I know what happens. Who am I kidding, yes, I would cause then I can see a side to Maddie’s half to make it whole. Either decision you will fall for this bad boy hero that captivates you and breaks you all at once.
We not only meet Nico and Maddie, but we meet the rest of the Cortez clan. While I am a little sad (just a little) for where I was hoping Nolan would head, I’m excited to see where his dilemma is going to take us. The Cortez bad boys will steal your heart, make you crave M & M’s and have you smiling like the Cheshire cat at the ending. Be still your heart and know that your sanity will be in tact at the end, I promise you it will. There is so much I want to say, but will not so that you can experience this book (without spoiler) and feel the pain and joy that we felt reading this.

We Were One was one of the timeless love stories, which spans over the years.

Maddie and Nico have grown up in this small town. Nico being the bad boy on a motorcycle and Maddie, the girl who steals his heart. I loved her attitude towards Nico, which I think made him even want Maggie more. You follow these two over the years, and then something significant happens in this story, that then throws you for a loop. There’s a mystery that just hidden within the pages.

This is the first book I’ve read of Elizabeth’s, and I thought it was such a great story. It has that potential to be an epic romance, but I’m not sure what it is. I just wasn’t able to connect with Maddie and Nico on that intense emotional level. It was highly enjoyable, and the tale of these two soul mates will go down as one of my favorites.

Overall, I give this Four Boundless Stars

**Note to readers: Content does include sexual content and language

This book is told from the male POV which made it more interesting to me. I did learn that this book is the alternate to the female POV of Girl in the Mirror (which I have not yet read), but both can be read as standalones.

This was my first book by Ms. Reyes and her words crushed me. It was like I handed my heart to Ms. Reyes, she broke it into a million pieces, and then page after page put it all back together again!

This book is an absolutely beautiful love story between Nico Cortez (the bad boy) and Maddie Hellman (the good girl). These two are characters are soul mates and the love they have for each other, as well as for their families, just gave me all the feels! Tissues at the ready are a must for this read!

We Were One by Elizabeth Reyes
Looking Glass Series Book Two
This is Nicolas “Nico” Cortez's point of view from the previous book, The Girl in the Mirror, which was all in Madeline “Maddie” Hellman's point of view. It's a completely different story as the reader sees so much more than the previous book through Nico's view. His strong emotions. His devastation. His love.

This strong man is brought to his knees and even lower when he loses his heart. The one and only girl for him. Elizabeth Reyes has written such a powerful story. Emotional and unique. I strongly suggest reading the first book before this one to get the full impact.
